Hospitality
The
Hospitality Chapter of the Richmond Quilt Guild meets on the 1st
Wednesday of each month (except July). You are invited to join us at
9:30 a.m. for coffee/social time, followed by our business meeting,
Show and Tell, and then our program.
We meet at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 9800 W. Huguenot Road, Bon
Air, which is on the south side of the James River (between
Chesterfield Mall and the Huguenot Bridge) in Richmond, Virginia.
Hospitality Chapter meetings are a great way to meet other quilters who
share your interest in quilts. Our meetings and activities are
great sources of inspiration with Guest Speakers, Show & Tell,
Workshops and Sit & Stitch for the novice looking for ideas of
where to begin to the expert looking for fresh ideas or techniques.

Membership:
We are a group of 95 quilters and growing.
Anyone with an interest in quilts is welcome, from the beginner to the
experienced, working by hand or machine in any style from traditional
quilter to art quilter.
Guests are welcome to visit for two meeting before joining. You can be
a guest first before committing to the financial investment of annual
dues which cost less than most subscriptions to quilt magazines, a
quilt book, an iron a rotary cutter mat or even dinner at a restaurant.
Our fiscal year starts in April, so anyone joining at or after the
October meeting may join at a discounted rate.
Library:
Our members-only lending library has over 350 books and is open for perusal and book checkout during social time.
Programs:
Programs include guest speakers, technique demonstrations, trunk shows,
holiday luncheon, and auctions. Workshops and Sit & Stitch are
scheduled several times per year usually after the regular morning
meeting.
Program guest speakers encompass local, regional and national
quilters. We enjoy showcasing our diverse local talent, drawing
from the wealth of quilters in our chapter, in the guild and in our
community. Come visit and see what other quilters in our area are
doing.
Some of our out-of-town guests have been:
Pamela Druhen from Vermont, Raymond Houston from Missouri, who has been
featured on Alex Anderson's TV show Simply Quilts, Barbara Webster from
North Carolina with her award winning photographic quilts showcasing
nature and Pat Knoechel from California who is an annual guest with her
engaging programs featuring her sister Eleanor Burns' latest books,
fabric and equipment.
Program demonstrations, workshops and sit &
stitch activities are great ways to learn new techniques, get a
refresher or just have fun with other quilters.
Auction:
We have biennial fund raising auctions to support our
program fund. The auctions are a fun way to support the chapter
programs by bidding on and donating items that are sewing related,
including quilts.
Other Activities:
Beyond the scheduled meeting times, we have other activities such as
workshops, sit & stitch sessions, lunch socials, and bus trips,
which have included trips to the Virginia Quilt Museum in Harrison,
Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Show in Hampton, Virginia.
Charity Projects:
Our chapter also provides a variety of opportunities to
share your time and talents through charitable projects. These include
quilts for veterans, children of soldiers in local rehab, neo-natal
hospital patients, pediatric cancer patients, Alzheimer's patients and
victims of natural disasters. Backpacks for school children, canned
goods for a local food bank, books and magazines to soldiers in Iraq,
and bags to Katrina children are some of our other charitable
donations. Hospitality members have donated 2,386.5 volunteer hours
during the 2007/2008 fiscal year
